John Textor looked like the most likely to take over at Everton earlier on this year, but after missing out he’s now set his sights on another club other than Crystal Palace.

It seems that John Textor‘s loss is set to be Dan Friedkin‘s gain.

After all, it seemed for all the world like he was set to swan into power, filling the void left by 777 Partners’ failure to prove their worth.

But, with Crystal Palace shares to sell, amongst other hurdles, the time frame did not suit Everton owner Farhad Moshiri, and he looked elsewhere.

Now, Textor is back to square one.

John Textor’s new plans after failed Everton takeover

The latest on Textor’s latest plans, following the failed attempt to take over at Everton, comes courtesy of Footbiz.

Within this report, it is noted what the American now hopes to do in the near future, not giving up on his dream of being a standalone owner at another English club.

It reads: ‘Where now for John Textor after his Everton deal fell through?

‘Well, there is less urgency to sell his Crystal Palace stake in a timeline sense, given he is no longer up against the clock of Premier League regulations. He is, however, still keen to offload his stake and gain control of another English club.

‘While we know he would prefer a Premier League side, it might be worth monitoring news in the Championship where we hear he has made checks on Watford’s situation.

‘That said, there is no shortage of other clubs in the Championship looking for new investors if Textor’s interest in Watford does not materialise into a bid, and the American does appear to enjoy shopping around. Cardiff and Plymouth are both actively searching for minority investors, but the Welsh club need to refinance existing loans of around £30m.’

John Textor had too many hurdles to complete Everton takeover

Whilst his effort and enthusiasm cannot be faulted, Textor simply had far too many hurdles in his path to have ever become Everton owner during his period.

After all, as is noted in the report, he always had his Crystal Palace shares to offload before he could even think of striking a deal with Moshiri.

That alone was a process that would have taken months, and then including the additional time it would have taken to then sort out the Everton end of the deal… it was too much, even with Textor outlining his plans for Everton before even getting in charge.

Especially when Friedkin was sniffing around, as another well-respected American billionaire with an interest in the Toffees.

Textor could never really compete, but hopefully he can pour his enthusiasm into another English club and achieve the success he sought with Everton elsewhere.
