Everton will be frustrated they have missed out on Kenny Tete, but all might not be as it seems.
David Moyes will know he has to start making signings imminently, with Everton’s first-team squad very thin at the moment.
The introduction of Tete to his plans would’ve had the right-back role secured for next season as Moyes doesn’t trust Nathan Patterson.
But Tete opted for a new Fulham contract, and now Everton are back to square one after missing out on the Premier League-proven star.
Even though his quality is there for all to see, it’s his attitude that could’ve caused a problem in the Toffees camp, and former Everton manager Ronald Koeman knew this firsthand.

Kenny Tete had bust up with former Everton manager Ronald Koeman
With the Dutchman excelling under another former Toffees boss in Marco Silva, the same couldn’t be said with Koeman in terms of his opportunities on an international level.
Although Tete has caused Everton problems and has been a consistent right-back for many years, Koeman didn’t see that as Holland manager.
Despite him shining for Fulham and being an integral part of Silva’s success with the Cottagers, Koeman saw past his form.
This lead to the 29-year-old missing out on call-ups on many occasions and Tete seemingly had enough.
The right-back spoke out publicly about his disappointment with Koeman not selecting him for Holland and gave a very stern interview to Ziggo Sport in 2023.
“I haven’t been there for two years, so you secretly hope that you are now,” Tete on The Netherlands national team.
“Then you feel, roughly speaking, as if you are being played with.
Koeman included Tete in the provisional group after a long time in 2023, but this angered the right-back even more.
“You can see it that way, but if I’m not in it, you might as well not include me in the pre-selection, right?”

Everton might have dodged a bullet with Kenny Tete after Koeman comments
What Moyes has excelled at during his first six months of his second spell with Everton is changing the unity in the squad.
There has been a drastic turn from players sneering at Sean Dyche’s tactics to no one stepping a foot out of line under the Scotsman.
So, looking at this situation with Tete, it’s not a great look when you call the international manager out, and do so in the public eye.
It’s clear Everton need to stay away from big egos, and Tete could have brought that to the club, so in a way, the Toffees have dodged a bullet.
Koeman isn’t seen as a great manager in Evertonians’ eyes after his mediocre stint, but he does know when he sees a good player, with him being the man who signed Idrissa Gana Gueye.
So if Koeman didn’t feel as if Tete was good enough for a call-up, that could be another sign to Everton that the deal collapsing was probably for the best.
