Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been linked with a move to Everton in the January transfer window.

David Moyes is eyeing new midfielders this month as he aims to solidify the Toffees’ position in the top half of the Premier League and potentially push for European qualification.

Mainoo faces an uncertain future at Manchester United as he has found game time hard to come by under Ruben Amorim.

Joe Thomas issues update on Everton quest for a new midfielder

Liverpool Echo’s Joe Thomas claims that the Toffees are open to strengthening their ranks in the middle of the park.

Moyes has had selection issues when it comes to midfielders and he is keen on addressing that in order to match the goals set out for this season.

Merlin Rohl and James Garner are two of their most versatile players, and that will be considered in their pursuit of a new midfield addition.

While Mainoo has been linked, it is understood that he is not under serious consideration by the decision makers at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Will Everton revisit the Mainoo deal closer to the end of the January transfer window?

Everton do not want to sign Mainoo currently, as Moyes and the hierarchy would have other alternatives in mind.

Also, the England international is out with an injury, so that could also be the deciding factor.

Amorim has hinted at the 20-year-old staying put at Old Trafford and with him tweaking his system, more game time could be in the offing for the academy graduate.

What did you make of James Garner’s performance? 😳

However, if things are to change closer to the end of the transfer window and Mainoo asks to leave, Everton may re-enter the fray.

There is a possibility that they do not get their desired targets and signing a Premier League-proven midfielder on loan would be a low-risk move.

As the Englishman is desperate for game time and potentially make his way into Thomas Tuchel’s England plans, he would give it his all during his loan spell on Merseyside.

Much like Jack Grealish, his arrival would excite fans and potentially win the Toffees a few points in games that they may have otherwise lost.
