On Saturday, Everton fans finally got to see Adam Aznou make his first-team debut.
The teenager signed for the club in the summer, and there was some decent hype given he was arriving from Bayern Munich.
Unfortunately though, it quickly became apparent that Adam Aznou was not in the immediate plans of David Moyes.
Aznou had been firmly rooted to the Everton substitutes’ bench for the past few months, with the manager showing unwavering faith in Vitaliy Mykolenko.
But on Saturday, Aznou was finally given his chance, as he replaced the ineffective Merlin Rohl in the late stages of the FA Cup clash with Sunderland.
He made an immediate impact, winning a penalty for James Garner to score and take the tie to extra-time.
Sadly, Everton did not advance after losing the shootout, but Aznou made an impression – and has come in for some nice support on social media.
Lamine Yamal shows support for Adam Aznou after he finally made Everton debut

Fans have been clamouring to see Aznou get a chance with the first-team.
For one reason or another, Moyes has been reluctant to turn to him this season, despite Mykolenko failing to impress.
But amid a player shortage, Aznou was finally allowed to show what he can do – and his showing actually left Moyes a tad red-faced. He was so refreshing and impactful, that it makes it hard to understand why he’s not been given any chances.
Aznou surely has to be handed more minutes after THAT display…😫
He showed more in his cameo than Mykolenko has all season
Everton fans hailed Aznou for his showing against Sunderland, with several taking to Everton News’ TalkingPoints feed to discuss the youngster
Today, Aznou has taken to social media to mark his competitive debut for Everton.
He stopped short of writing a caption, perhaps preferring to let the images themselves do the talking.
In the comments, several of his Everton teammates commented on the post:
- James Garner – ‘My brother 💙’
- Tim Iroegbunam – ‘💙’
- Thierno Barry – ‘Very happy for u my bro u deserve Adam time in’challah ❤️🙌🏿👏🏿’ (also wrote ‘Very happy for you, little brother on his Story)
And there were also some messages of support from two very high-profile players:
- Lamine Yamal – ‘🤞🏾❤️’
- Achraf Hakimi – ‘Let’s gooo 🔥💯’
Aznou, of course, came through Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy before his move to Bayern, which is how he knows Yamal. And Hakimi is one of his Morocco teammates.
Aznou came vs Sunderland could be his catalyst
Aznou’s debut against Sunderland couldn’t really have gone much better for him.
He was sent on very late by Moyes, but still made an instant impression and it was thanks to him that Everton remained alive in the tie, before ultimately losing.

Hopefully now this will be his catalyst after a frustrating first half of the season watching from the sidelines.
Moyes praised Aznou, but one gets the sense that he will still have a lot to do if he is to dislodge Mykolenko as the starting left-back.
