Everton are in the market for a midfielder this summer transfer window.

The Toffees are trying to sign Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough, but after having two bids rejected, that deal has gone quiet.

David Moyes has also looked at Arthur Atta at Udinese, and the Frenchman is open to joining a Premier League club.

Everton have a Championship midfielder on their shortlist as well, however, it looks as though Leeds United are in the driving seat.

Leeds submit bid for Everton target Shea Charles

It has been reported that Everton have been scouting Shea Charles after standing out in the second tier with Southampton.

Charles, who operates as a defensive midfielder, seems to be viewed as a potential successor to Idrissa Gana Gueye.

What would you be doing with Nathan Patterson this summer if you were Angus Kinnear? 👋

Surely the writing is on the wall now?

But, the Merseysiders have been left behind in the race to sign the Northern Ireland international, as Leeds are in talks with Saints over a deal.

In fact, Daniel Farke’s side have already lodged a bid worth in the region of £20m for Charles, according to Alex Crook.

“LUFC have tabled a £20m bid for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles. Discussions between the clubs are ongoing,” Crook posted on X.

Whilst Everton appear to haggle over Hackney’s fee, having had a £15m bid rejected, they are now missing out on a very good alternative.

There is still time for a late hijack and you would think Charles would be more keen to make the switch to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, given the trajectory of the club.
