At times, what goes on at Manchester United actually threatens to make Everton look like a well-run club.
After all, the lack of foresight shown at Old Trafford is actually alarming, and with the scale of their operation, far beyond anything Farhad Moshiri could have managed, their failures are so much more dramatic.
Naturally, they are not quite as dangerous, with relegation seldom a threat, but it still draws widespread ridicule as they plough through manager after manager with little success.
Erik ten Hag is the latest to fall foul of the United curse, with one former Everton manager actually considered for the Manchester United post.
However, they really seem set on one man.

And, with what Fabrizio Romano is reporting, it seems set to be announced soon enough.
He took to X to recently write: ‘BREAKING: Manchester United are set to pay €10m exit clause for Rúben Amorim to become new manager, here we go!
‘Sporting confirm formal communication received from #MUFC for Amorim to be appointed.
‘Amorim has already said yes to Man Utd proposal and project.’
Whilst on paper this seems like it wouldn’t affect Everton, actually, one alteration to the backroom staff might inadvertently help them keep Jarrad Branthwaite.
After all, iNews have since reported that this appointment will likely see Ruud van Nistelrooy leave Old Trafford after his spell as caretaker manager is up.
Jarrad Branthwaite could now stay at Everton
The reason why this is such good news for the Toffees is linked to the Red Devils’ recent transfer business.
After all, Manchester United have wanted Branthwaite for some time now, even submitting bids in the summer.
Naturally, they were rejected, but the fear was that the allure would come not only from a club of this size, but from one man who worked within: Ruud van Nistelrooy.
After all, this legendary Dutch marksman actually worked alongside Branthwaite at PSV, where the Englishman spent a stellar season on loan.
Following that, he was very vocal about wanting to bring the 22-year-old back on a permanent deal, praising him: ‘He is good on the ball, can play on the right or left of the centre because he is two-footed, has height and speed – he is a very complete defender.’
Branthwaite was complimentary in return, stating: ‘He was brilliant for me.
‘He would speak to me about my body shape when defending and the importance of being side-on, so that I am always ready to run back or be ready to press forward. He said if you don’t have the right body shape, you will get done because the Premier League is much faster. If they play it in behind and you are not side-on, the striker will already be gone.’
His exit from Old Trafford should well that interest, and with the unrest of a new manager, any plans to move there must look far less appealing.
