Everton are looking over to Sunderland in the search for a new striker.
Sky Sports revealed earlier this week that Everton have opened talks to sign Wilson Isidor as The Friedkin Group try to sign a new forward for David Moyes, with Sunderland valuing the Frenchman at £25m.
Now, Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has spoken about the 25-year-old as Everton lurk.
Would you back a move for Wilson Isidor ? 🎯
Regis Le Bris concedes Wilson Isidor is frustrated at Sunderland amid Everton interest
Earlier on Thursday, the 50-year-old was asked for an update on Isidor as the Toffees circle, and his response should encourage Everton fans.
Le Bris told The Northern Echo: “For Wilson, I’ve had many conversations with him and his agent recently. He’s a really good player, important for us, did really well in the past and for sure in the future as well.
“Yes, sure (he is frustrated after losing his spot to Brian Brobbey) which I think is acceptable – it’s not new in professional life. I think you have to accept good and bad periods.”
Isidor started 11 of the first 15 Premier League games for Sunderland this season – netting four goals – but lost his place to Brobbey around the start of December.
The man born in Rennes is contracted to Sunderland until July 2028 as well, so there is no escape route from this situation unless Le Bris either brings him back into the fold, or chooses to sell.
Nottingham Forest were also keen on Isidor – but having now reached an agreement to sign Lorenzo Lucca from Napoli, it remains to be seen whether Sean Dyche continues to rival Everton for the Sunderland striker.
Wilson Isidor might experience a similar issue at Everton
At Sunderland, Isidor must compete with Brobbey and Eliezer Mayenda for one spot in the 5-4-1 formation Le Bris often uses.
If a move to Everton materialised, the Sunderland No.18 would have a similar issue, as Moyes only tends to start one striker in a 4-2-3-1 shape and already has Thierno Barry and Beto to choose from.
Having said that, Everton might sell Beto if a respectable bid arrives.
Finish this sentence: At the end of the window, Beto will be playing for… 🤔
What would YOU do if you were calling the shots?
Of course, spending £25m on Isidor would suggest Everton view him as an immediate starter, but a few poor displays would potentially put him right back into the same situation he’s currently frustrated with at Sunderland.
So, if Everton can agree a fee with Sunderland, the Toffees may have to be particularly persuasive during discussions over personal terms with the attacker.
