Manager Everton sacked says he never gets the credit he deserves from fans

There is plenty of manager talk at Everton right now – involving David Moyes and those who came before him.

Former Toffees boss Marco Silva is set to replace Jose Mourinho at Benfica after rejecting a new contract at Fulham – also turning down the chance to manage Nottingham Forest.

Moyes himself is under pressure too after a run of six games without a win saw Everton put up a miserable fight in the battle for European football.

Now, another former Everton manager in Sam Allardyce has posed a question to the fanbase, arguing that it feels like he “never existed” given the lack of appreciation from supporters.

What would you say to Angus Kinnear after THAT loss to Sunderland? 😤

Something has to change… 😭

Sam Allardyce bemoans lack of recognition at Everton

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, the 71-year-old said: “Listen, Everton, right? I finished eighth at Everton. I didn’t get there until December. Nobody’s ever done better than that, but it’s like I never existed. It’s like I never did a good job at Everton. I saved Everton from disaster.”

Allardyce took over when Everton were 13th in the Premier League, going on to win ten and draw seven of his 26 games in charge.

As the former England manager states, he eventually guided the Toffees to eighth place in that 2017/18 campaign, but was sacked in May 2018 and swiftly replaced by the aforementioned Silva.

Allardyce was the subject of a derogatory banner from Everton fans during a 2-0 win over Huddersfield in April 2018, which read: “Our survey says… get out of our club.”

It was a direct response to a survey arranged by Everton, which asked supporters to rate Allardyce – who Wayne Rooney defended – and the performance of his backroom staff on a scale from 0 to ten.

Ultimately, results were good enough on paper, but the style of football never sat right with the Goodison Park faithful. It is a fine line others have failed to tread carefully enough, even Moyes himself.

Is Rooney right? Does Sam Allardyce deserve more credit for his time at Everton? 😬

The Glaswegian left many West Ham fans discontent with his style of football even despite winning the UEFA Conference League in 2023 – so Allardyce is not the only one to cause frustration while overseeing decent results.
