Everton have missed out on several players already this winter.
The Times said Everton were chasing Tammy Abraham before Aston Villa found a breakthrough in negotiations with Besiktas instead.
Everton also wanted Ethan Nwaneri on loan from Arsenal before the England U21 international was sent to Marseille – where he is already receiving plenty of praise after a stunning debut against Lens.

Alan Myers has hinted at TFG's approach to transfers at Everton, and it won't please fans…
Ethan Nwaneri called a “super talent” as Arsenal loanee shows Everton what could have been
It took the 18-year-old just 13 minutes to score on his first appearance for Marseille, slotting a composed finish into the bottom corner after a daring run.
It gave David Moyes a glimpse of what could have been, and comments from Roberto De Zerbi after that 3-1 win over Lens only rubbed salt in the wounds for Everton.
The former Brighton boss hailed Nwaneri for his immediate impact, saying: “Ethan Nwaneri will become a top player, I’m sure about that…you can see the quality, the impact. He’s so good.”
Pablo Longoria – President of Marseille – also spoke highly of the Londoner, calling him a “young diamond” in the Telegraph and a “super talent” after his mesmeric debut, which surely made Everton feel a bit jealous.
Nevertheless, it was always going to be tough for The Friedkin Group to sign Nwaneri given how many clubs were chasing his signature, and it already seems as if Arsenal have made the right choice sending him to Marseille.
Everton may still land an Arsenal academy graduate this winter
While one product of the Hale End academy has escaped Everton this month, another could still move to Merseyside in Brooke Norton-Cuffy.
The right-back, now at Genoa, is wanted by the Toffees to provide competition for Nathan Patterson, according to reports in Italy.
Give Me Sport add that Everton have already held talks with Genoa over a deal for Norton-Cuffy, who Arsenal sold to the Italian side for £1.7m back in August 2024.
Everton are keen on signing Brooke Norton-Cuffy… are there other positions more important than right-back this transfer window?
So, while Nwaneri got away from the Toffees, Everton could still bring an Arsenal academy graduate to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
