Everton have been through several managers over the last decade.
Farhad Moshiri was constantly chopping and changing during his underwhelming tenure as Everton’s owner.
Moshiri sacked five managers across his eight years in charge, whilst Carlo Ancelotti walked out to join Real Madrid in 2021.
He appointed Rafael Benitez as his replacement, though, that was nothing short of a complete disaster as the supporters never took to him and his results had the Toffees in a relegation battle.
Prior to appointing Frank Lampard, it emerged that Everton were eyeing Wayne Rooney, but he decided to reject the job.
“Everton approached my agent and asked me to interview for the job,” Rooney said in 2022, via ESPN.
“But I turned it down. I believe I will be a Premier League manager and I am ready for that 100 percent. But I have a job at Derby, which is important to me.”
Since then, he’s endured multiple difficult spells as a manager but now could land another Championship job.

Wayne Rooney contender for Blackburn Rovers job
Since rejecting Everton’s approach at the start of 2022, Rooney has been sacked twice by Birmingham City and Plymouth Argyle.
The 39-year-old took over from John Eustace at Birmingham in October 2023 with the goal of gaining promotion.
Eustace was brutally sacked with the Blues in fifth place and it turned out to be a horrendous decision, as Rooney was dismissed just a few months later after dropping into 20th.
He was given a second opportunity at Championship football with Plymouth, but that experiment ended after seven months.
However, according to talkSPORT, Blackburn Rovers could give Rooney a lifeline as they consider sacking Valerien Ismael, who only joined February.
Ismael has only won one of his first eight games in charge and is thought to be under pressure by the Ewood Park bosses.
Rooney far cry away from managing Everton
Rooney’s managerial career has left a lot to be desired as he’s failed pretty much everywhere he’s been, bar perhaps in the US.
He’s some way off managing in the Premier League, and it’s hard to imagine Everton reigniting their interest in him any time soon.
Rooney would have to go in at Blackburn and guide them back to the Premier League to have any chance of returning to Goodison Park.
Anyhow, he remains a fan favourite among the Everton supporters for his career as a player.
