A much-needed win for Everton was emphatically earned on Wednesday night as the Toffees put Wolves to the sword.
Amid Everton’s daunting run of fixtures, the home game against Wolves offered Sean Dyche and his side a huge opportunity at three points.
A loss would have taken the Toffees into the bottom three, but instead, Everton have created a five-point cushion on 18th spot.

Ashley Young really impressed against Wolves as he provided the Toffees with the opening goal of the night.
But there was another Everton player who former Premier League winner Martin Keown was left wowed by on Wednesday night.

Martin Keown hails Dwight McNeil’s ‘ridiculous’ quality at Everton
Dwight McNeil shared details of Dyche’s private meeting at Everton with the results not quite going in the favour of the Toffees recently.
And it seems as if the message certainly got through to the players ahead of their game against their fellow strugglers.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Keown admitted he was really impressed with McNeil’s ability to provide a quality set piece.
“Everton not scoring in four games. Now, there’s something very wrong with the wall there [for Ashley Young’s goal], but a great finish.
“And this one here coming in. This was disallowed, actually, Gary. McNeil’s quality that he puts in is ridiculous. He’s a player now playing off the front, and he’s got really good quality.
“They get bodies around it. And then when Mangala comes on to the end of it, that’s his first goal for Everton, playing as a six today, again, look at McNeil, another ball in. They can’t defend it.”
McNeil has come inside from the wing this season to play more of a central role which has proved profitable for the midfielder in returning four goals and three assists.
He has impressed so much TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has tipped McNeil for an England call-up if he is able to keep his form going in the right direction.
Dwight McNeil shone against Wolves
It has been a difficult campaign for the Toffees who have largely struggled in front of goal this season.
But the 25-year-old has been a bright spark for Everton with Seamus Coleman hailing McNeil as a leader at Goodison Park.
Here is a summary of McNeil’s dazzling display against Wolves:
- 74 minutes played
- 44 touches
- 2 key passes
- 1 big chance created
- 60% pass accuracy
Some Everton fans were annoyed with McNeil following the Manchester United loss on the weekend but it seems he may have redeemed himself on Wednesday night.
