The summer transfer window is fast-approaching, and Everton have been drawing up a shortlist of targets in preparation.

The window opens on Monday, the 15th of June, so David Moyes and his recruitment chiefs will be finalising their priority targets.

As it stands, Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye is set to leave the club as his contract expires at the end of June.

Are there any players from the relegated clubs you want to see Everton go after this summer? 🤔

So, signing a Gueye replacement will be high up on the agenda and Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney is believed to be on Moyes’ radar.

Hackney, who was the Championship’s Player of the Season, won’t be an easy deal to do for the Toffees, as Manchester United are now pressing ahead with a deal.

Everton target Hayden Hackney wanted by Michael Carrick

It was claimed in April that Everton were leading ‘more than half the Premier League’ in the race to sign Hackney this summer.

However, the tide has now changed, as according to the Northern Echo, Carrick is pushing for Man United to land Hackney’s signature.

Carrick brought Hackney through when he was Middlesbrough manager, so he’s already got an existing relationship with the Everton target.

Should Everton be making a summer move for Hayden Hackney at a reported £30m?

Perhaps he'd be a good long-term successor to Idrissa Gana Gueye… 🤔

That will make it very tricky for the Toffees to beat United in the transfer battle, and it’s already being reported that they are ‘increasingly likely’ to submit a bid.

So, in truth, it’s probably best that Moyes’ chiefs move on to other targets rather than wasting time waiting in the wings.

Everton are also interested in Southampton’s Shea Charles, who would be much more attainable after the Saints missed out on promotion.

Charles, who came through Manchester City’s academy, is a more defensive-minded midfielder than Hackney.

He’d probably be better suited to replace Gueye, so there is a lot to like about the potential signing.
