Michail Antonio shares what he thought was ‘crazy’ about Everton after playing against them last Saturday

Everton were beaten 3-1 by West Ham United on Saturday afternoon, leaving Sean Dyche’s side 16th in the table.

Once again, the Toffees were left to rue missed chances and were punished by a late flurry from David Moyes’ men.

Hammers striker Michail Antonio has been speaking about the game on the Players Channel Podcast and praised Dyche’s side.

Everton performance praised by Antonio

The 33-year-old featured for the final ten minutes at Goodison Park and claimed Beto’s goal sparked West Ham into life.

“What’s crazy is that Everton actually played very well. I have to give it to them,” he said.

“First half they were all over us, missed a pen and had a couple of good opportunities that they didn’t take.

“Then it came to the second half, and they still had a decent amount of possession and managed to score. As soon as they scored, that just turned us on. They scored, and we just completely turned the game around. We were like nah we need to turn up here otherwise we are going to lose.”

Everton must add cutting-edge

Despite being awarded points back by the Premier League, Everton must add a cutting edge to their game if a nervy end to the season is to be avoided.

After the defeat to West Ham, Dyche highlighted Beto’s penalty miss as a crucial moment.

“Penalty has to go in; at least we got a penalty, which is a positive. It’s not a blow. It’s a reality. Too many games have got away from us at Goodison,” he said.

“We create golden chances, we don’t take them, and they had two more chances and scored them both. I’m frustrated because we’re doing good stuff – but you have to score a goal. The pressure is on us now to score goals.”

Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are suffering from similar confidence issues, but one needs to step up between now and the end of the season. With every missed chance, the pressure increases. The sooner one finds a consistent run of goalscoring form, the better.

Considering the Toffees’ impressive defensive record, they would quickly move into mid-table if the back of the net can be found more regularly.

Things don’t get any easier with a tough-looking trip to Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime.
