Everton have been handed a boost regarding the future of defender Jarrad Branthwaite, as it appears that Manchester United have other targets prioritised over him.

It was recently reported that Man United were considering a move for the 21-year-old, who has also been linked with Manchester City.

Branthwaite returned from a productive loan spell at PSV Eindhoven last season, and has been a shining light in this current Everton side. The club are trying to tie him down to a new contract amidst the transfer attention directed towards him.

Fabrizio Romano has now delivered a reassuring update on Branthwaite, as he has claimed that despite Man United’s interest in him, they have other targets they will likely pursue ahead of him.

Man United’s Branthwaite interest

In his Daily Briefing, Romano has revealed that Man United’s interest in Branthwaite may be usurped by their interest in Antonio Silva, Jean-Clair Todibo and Edmond Tapsoba.

“The Everton defender has been the subject of rumours linking him with Manchester United, but while they want a CB in 2024 my understanding remains that the three main names being considered are Antonio Silva, Jean-Clair Todibo and Edmond Tapsoba,” he claimed.

“Of course it’s normal to see a lot of players linked, but I have no further news since my update earlier this week.”

When a young player shows as much promise as Branthwaite has this year, it is natural that he will attract attention from clubs higher up the table who may see him as a good investment.

However, the interest from United appears to be nothing more than United viewing him as one of many potential targets given his profile.

It seems likely that Branthwaite will sign a new deal and commit his future to the club, and Everton now need to make sure that they can stay in the Premier League and begin to improve to stop top talents like the centre-back from moving on.
