Everton are in the market for a central defender this summer.

David Moyes wants to add more depth at the heart of his defence, as last season, Jarrad Branthwaite really struggled with injuries.

Everton are showing an interest Jayden Oosterwolde from Fenerbahce and the versatile Ben White has been linked too.

Everton target John Stones impresses for England

Everton are exploring a deal to sign John Stones, who is set to become a free agent upon the expiry of his Manchester City contract.

It has been reported that Stones prefers a return to Merseyside ahead of other interested parties such as Newcastle United.

The 32-year-old was in action for England against Costa Rica last night, helping Thomas Tuchel’s side to a 3-0 win ahead of the World Cup.

There have been some doubts around whether Stones is in decline, but the national media were really impressed by his performance in America.

Here’s what the Mirror had to say about the Toffees target.

7/10 – “Excellent on the ball, composed and classy. This was a good audition and proved his fitness.”

The Standard stated.

6/10 – “Did well in central defence as he earned more minutes, which Tuchel was keen for him to do.”

GOAL added.

6/10 – “Often the one who connected defence and attack with his passing, a job he is very good at.”

Livescore noted.

6.7 – “Stepped forward to circulate possession as an auxiliary midfielder, though one misplaced pass contributed to Pickford’s error.”

Evidently, Everton should be confident that Stones is still performing at the top of his game and would be a real coup for Moyes’ side.
