Everton have now confirmed their third signing of the summer as Mark Travers arrives.

David Moyes clearly wanted to sort out Everton’s goalkeeper situation straight away and has done so with Travers.

The former Bournemouth goalkeeper arrives with pedigree after playing internationally for Ireland and boasting some strong Premier League performances.

Travers has impressed Seamus Coleman, which is already the key to Evertonians’ hearts as the 26-year-old could certainly get his chance.

However, it will take a lot to get past the formidable Jordan Pickford in the pecking order, as Travers has made his feelings very clear on the Everton number one.

New Everton star Mark Travers makes honest claim about Jordan Pickford

The Irishman has come in as a number two but will no doubt be gunning for the number one spot at the Toffees.

He’s previously shown excellence in the top flight, which warranted the move to Merseyside as Moyes seems a fan, and it’s clear to see why.

Travers had his success at Bournemouth, but it was on loan at Middlesbrough last season where he proved he was above the level of the Championship.

Now, it’s his time to prove his worth, and Moyes has brought Travers in for competition, not just as a back-up.

This will strike up a friendly rivalry with Travers and Pickford, but speaking to the Everton website, the Irish keeper has been very honest about the current main man between the sticks.

“Jordan (Pickford) is an outstanding goalkeeper for club and country,” Travers said.

“I’m looking forward to competing with everyone here and being a Premier League player.”

Travers has already made a massive contribution to Everton

The 26-year-old will be ready for the challenge, and although he’s a big fan of Pickford, the Irishman will no doubt jump at the chance to take any opportunity.

His shot-stopping has been praised on many occasions, with Andoni Iraola claiming that Travers ‘helped’ Bournemouth ‘a lot’ at times last season, when Bournemouth drew 1-1 away to Aston Villa.

But it’s clear that the goalkeeper has already made a huge contribution to Everton, and that came in a little-known game when a certain Abdoulaye Doucoure kept the Toffees in the Premier League.

Travers was in the net when this thunderbolt from the Malian went in, and it will be difficult to top this contribution now at the club, of course, fans will be hoping he’ll keep those shots out of the goal this campaign.

After Travers, Moyes wants up to six signings, as The Friedkin Group could finally be taking this window seriously.
