Everton are currently in negotiations with Middlesbrough over a deal for Hayden Hackney.
It was The Athletic who first broke the news earlier on Friday as The Friedkin Group attempt to make an early signing for David Moyes.
The Middlesbrough No.7 is believed to be keen on a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium – and reliable Everton insider The Bobble has now provided another promising update on Hayden Hackney.
How would you feel about Hayden Hackney becoming Everton’s first signing? 🤩
Hayden Hackney talks said to be “going well”
The Bobble has now added a tiny – but interesting – detail about the talks between Everton and Middlesbrough.
It is said that the discussions are “going well” between both parties after Hackney made it clear his preference is a move to Everton.
Some might scoff at that, but it is a hugely encouraging detail considering what The Athletic revealed earlier.
The reliable outlet claimed Middlesbrough are in no rush to sell the England U21 international regardless of the fact he only has 12 months remaining on his contract – it was even reported that Boro might be willing to let him enter the final year and potentially leave on a free transfer in 2027.
Therefore, the fact talks are now going “well” suggests Middlesbrough are entertaining the sale of the 23-year-old.

It remains to be seen how much Everton end up spending on Hackney – the Telegraph believe it could even be as little as £10m given his contract situation.
That would be a complete and utter bargain for a young, homegrown talent who was only recently named the 2025/26 Championship Player of the Season, and also a welcome addition considering Idrissa Gueye currently looks set to leave as a free agent.
If you were Angus Kinnear who would you be going all out for this summer? 💰
Everton fans must remain wary as Manchester United, Tottenham and Crystal Palace are still interested in Hackney – but at this current moment in time, the signs certainly look good.
