Everton have now been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Ajax forward Brian Brobbey as the 21-year-old does not want to leave the Dutch giants.

The ‘fast’ attacker had been linked with a move to Goodison Park as per reports on Sky Sports, as the Blues look to rebuild their threadbare forward line.

However, the Dutch forward is reluctant to leave Amsterdam this summer, with a move away from Ajax ‘not on the agenda’.

That is according to Voetbal International journalist Reon Boeringa, who took to Twitter to state that while Everton’s interest was genuine, securing his signature is unlikely.

Boeringa tweeted: “That Everton sees a very interesting striker in Brian Brobbey, as reported by Sky Sports this morning, is quite possible. Only a summer departure from Ajax is not on the agenda of the player in question.”

Brobbey move to Everton could have seen much needed increase in goals at Goodison Park

Indeed, it has been a frustratingly slow start to the summer transfer window for Everton, and the news that Brobbey is reluctant to make the switch is yet another blow.

The Toffees sold Anthony Gordon last January in a £45m deal with Newcastle United, though are yet to spend for the second consecutive transfer window.

Ashley Young is Sean Dyche’s sole signing of the summer so far, with the veteran joining on a free transfer after his contract expired at Villa Park.

Brobbey could have been an interesting addition to Everton’s attacking options, with the 21-year-old scoring 13 Eredivisie goals in 32 games last season, also contributing three assists.

Adding goals is of paramount importance to Everton this summer and recruiting a young and prodigious talent such as Brobbey would be an exciting addition.

However, Everton appear set to secure Arnaut Danjuma at the second attempt on a season-long loan, so there at last appears to be some movement at Goodison Park.
