Everton’s Ben Godfrey could earn a move to one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

That’s according to 90min, who have reported that both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are monitoring the defender.

Ben Godfrey arrived at Everton with a lot of potential three years ago, completing a £20 million switch from Norwich City.

The centre-back initially really impressed at Goodison Park and was named as the Young Player of the Season in his first campaign.

However, the 25-year-old’s time with Everton has since gone downhill and he managed only 13 appearances in the Premier League last time out.

Godfrey has made only one appearance from the bench this term and looks unlikely to force his way past James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite for another chance at first team action.

Despite Godfrey’s lack of game time in recent seasons, he has become a target for two of the biggest clubs in the top flight in Newcastle and Spurs.

Both clubs are said to be long-term admirers of the defender and see him as an option as they both look to bolster their defences.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth, Burnley and Crystal Palace are also said be interested in Godfrey, while Rangers are thought to be keen on his signature.

Should Everton sell Godfrey?

With Ben Godfrey still having two years left on his contract, Everton are under no pressure to sell him in January.

While the centre-back’s time on Merseyside has been underwhelming, Godfrey provides great back-up for Everton and it would only take one injury for him to be thrust back into the starting line-up.

However, Godfrey is likely to want to leave if he can pick up regular game time. The Toffees may not want to keep him against his will, but surely they would have to fork in a decent amount given the eight-figure fee they paid for him in 2020.
