Pat Nevin says one Everton player was actually ‘really good’ vs Nottingham Forest

Everton have fallen to a 2-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest.

The Toffees have had some good results over the festive period, having beaten Wolves 4-0, before holding Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City to draws.

But today against Forest, Everton came up way short.

Sean Dyche went with Armando Broja up front in place of Dominic Calvert-Lewin – a change many fans had been calling for.

But the same issues were there for Everton, and once Forest took the lead through Chris Wood it was always going to be difficult. Morgan Gibbs-White then killed the game with his second-half goal.

Thankfully, the January transfer window is just days away and hopefully, The Friedkin Group can oversee a positive window for Everton – because new faces are definitely needed.

Despite today’s defeat, there was one good performer in the eyes of pundit Pat Nevin.

It’s been another great season for Jordan Pickford, despite many of his teammates struggling.

The England number one is joint-top for Premier League clean sheets so far, along with David Raya, and his opposite number today Matz Sels.

Pickford couldn’t really have done much for either of the goals Forest scored.

But he did make five saves in the game, four of which came from shots inside the box (via Sofascore). One of those came from Elanga late on and that led pundit Pat Nevin to say on BBC Radio 5 Live (via BBC Sport): “We knew what Forest were trying to do and they did it beautifully.

“Nobody was catching Anthony Elanga, but well done to Jordan Pickford.

“Pickford has been really good again.”

The 30-year-old certainly spared Everton’s blushes, and one wonders how he must feel seeing so many people around him not pulling their weight.

Everton are failing Jordan Pickford

It was yet another good showing from Pickford, who must be extremely frustrated with life at Everton.

His form has been terrific, and it’s a crying shame that his contributions don’t count for as much as they should.

Gary Lineker and Joe Hart both praised Pickford last week for his consistency, and one really does wonder where Everton would be without him.

At least he is starting to command respect for his consistency for Everton. Some Arsenal fans even praised Pickford recently, and there are bound to be clubs looking to sign him next summer.

But hopefully, Everton will preserve their Premier League status and The Friedkin Group can spend some money to hand Pickford some more teammates of greater quality.
