‘That’s the final straw’… Everton fans all agree £17m player was ‘awful’ vs Nottingham Forest

Everton have been beaten by Nottingham Forest in their latest Premier League game.

After holding Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal to draws, Sean Dyche’s side lost 2-0 at Goodison Park in what was a disappointing result.

The Reds are flying high this season. But this was still seen as an opportunity for Everton to get three points on the board.

But Forest took the lead after minutes, with Chris Wood producing a lobbed finish over Jordan Pickford after a headed one-two with Anthony Elanga.

That meant Everton then had to come out and fashion chances.

But time and time again, there was no quality in the final third.

Jack Harrison’s poor form continued for Everton and there will be more calls now for him to return to Leeds United.

Iliman Ndiaye was lively, but couldn’t produce that finishing touch.

There was a first Premier League start of the season for Armando Broja up top, with the Albanian replacing Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

There have been calls for a while now for Broja to start for Everton, and Dyche finally obliged. But it was a tough afternoon for the striker on loan from Chelsea.

And there was another start at left-back for Vitaly Mykolenko, who struggled once again.

It has been a poor season for Mykolenko.

The Ukraine international has often made mistakes in games, and Mykolenko was described as a ‘weak link’ by Michael Ball earlier this season.

Everton fans hoped Mykolenko would kick on after he shone against Chelsea.

But against Nottingham Forest the £17 million man was poor, struggling to create when getting forward and also being weak defensively. He was slow to react on the second Forest goal – although he wasn’t helped by the pass by Abdoulaye Doucoure – before completely vacating his position. Fans on social media have made their feelings clear.

Everton must sign a new left-back

So this was another poor showing from Mykolenko and there is a strong argument for The Friedkin Group to make a new left-back a priority in January.

Unfortunately, the 25-year-old has had too many that just haven’t been up to scratch this season.

If this is not possible in January, the Dyche may need to consider shifting Ashley Young over to the left side, with Nathan Patterson or Seamus Coleman to play on the right.
