A former Everton player is being lauded at his new club already.

Like all Premier League club, Everton will have to trade this summer transfer window in order to comply with Profit and Sustainability regulations.

That said, they’ve already offloaded five players, raising a total of £70m which Sean Dyche will be hopeful of spending on further additions.

One of the players who was sold is already flourishing at his new club.

Ben Godfrey thriving at Atalanta

Ben Godfrey endured a topsy-turvy Everton career following his £20m switch from Norwich City in October 2020.

Godfrey racked up just shy of a century of appearances for the Merseysiders but after making just 13 starts last term, he opted to depart in a £10m switch to Serie A side Atalanta.

The 26-year-old is already thriving in Italy and his teammate Maarten de Roon has been left blown away by how well he’s settled in and his skillset.

“Speed and physical strength: I have never seen someone go so fast in the first preparation with Gasperini,” de Roon said, via Tutto Atalanta.

“Now he has to grow tactically: Italian football is different from that of the Premier League.”

Have Everton made a mistake

Godfrey was brought into Goodison Park with big promise but he never really fulfilled it for a consistent period of time.

Though, still only 26, he has plenty of time to polish his game and become the defender many tipped him to be.

So, have Everton made a mistake in letting him leave on a permanent deal?

Only time will tell but Atalanta certainly feel they’ve got a supremely talented player on their hands.
