Everton’s summer had inspired great optimism around Goodison Park, with Kevin Thelwell seemingly working wonders in the market.
He had bolstered their backline, their midfield and their attack, and Sean Dyche was expected to enjoy a wealth of options to hopefully take them into a far safer and secure Premier League season.
However, a 3-0 and 4-0 loss to kickstart the new campaign was about as badly as things could have gone, and now has fans questioning the recruitment and the manager’s handling of these new players.
What’s worse is that the opportunity has emerged for them to acquire far more talent as well, but due to financial restraints, they have often had to cut back.
Now, one of those targets is finally set to move elsewhere.
Everton handed golden opportunity to sign striker
The latest on this particular transfer naturally comes via Fabrizio Romano, who took to X this very morning to issue an update on the future of Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko.
A bright young German talent, with a glorious future if the start to his career is anything to go by, this would have represented a fine coup for the Toffees, even if there were risks present.

However, Thelwell has made a few calculated ones already this summer, but offset them by ensuring his signings were young enough to retain their sell-on value.
The 19-year-old certainly would have boasted that had he failed to make the grade in the Premier League.
Alas, Dyche will never have the pleasure, with Romano now tweeting: ‘Medical today for Youssoufa Moukoko as new OGC Nice player on loan with option to buy from Borussia Dortmund. The option to buy clause will be worth more than reported €12m fee.’
Everton were offered the chance to sign Youssoufa Moukoko earlier this month.
Sean Dyche needs to sell a few Everton players
If Everton are to bring in a new striker, or new players in any position for that matter, it feels like they will have to sell first.
Fortunately, there is so much dead wood for Thelwell to comb through if he is seeking to bring in a few extra chunks of money to set up a grandstand finish to the transfer window.
Rather unfortunately is the fact that these players are currently sitting on relatively large contracts with little time left, and therefore could simply run them down and fetch a much higher wage elsewhere in a year or two.

Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Neal Maupay are the outstanding trio who fans would likely want to see ejected, but they are all currently earning £70k, £80k and £50k-a-week respectively, doing little to warrant those funds.
Their depreciating status and quality also suggest that they would struggle to earn anything similar were they to depart this very summer.
So, for Thelwell, it will take a fine balancing act to convince these players that their futures lie elsewhere, when the monetary benefits of sticking around for one final year are so blatant.
