The Premier League have issued a statement on why Thierno Barry’s goal for Everton was allowed to stand against Manchester City.

Everton thought they were headed for all three points after Barry’s sensational performance off the bench at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The 23-year-old has endured a turbulent spell on Merseyside, but he answered a lot of his critics with two goals against Pep Guardiola’s side.

Do we all owe this man an apology after his performance against Man City? 👀

Credit where it's due, he was absolutely fantastic! 👏

Premier League release statement over Thierno Barry’s opening Everton goal

Everton had a big penalty shout rejected in the latter stages of the game after Merlin Rohl was brought down by Bernardo Silva.

One big decision did go in their favour, though, with Barry’s first goal of the night allowed to stand despite calls of offside from the City dugout.

‘The referee’s call of goal for Everton was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed that there was no offside offence as Guehi deliberately played the ball,’ said the Premier League.

Although Barry was initially in an offside position, Marc Guehi brought the Frenchman back into play with his bizarre back pass to his goalkeeper.

It was smart from the Everton striker to remain in and around the play before pouncing on the error from Guehi.

Everton supporters have been frustrated with Barry over recent weeks, with his attitude leaving a lot to be desired.

However, what the 23-year-old showed on Monday evening was much improved, as he looked like he had his hunger for the game back.

Moyes set Barry the target of scoring two goals before the end of the season and he took no time to answer his manager.

It now leaves Moyes with an interesting decision over who should start at the weekend against Crystal Palace.
