Everton sanctioned the permanent sale of Youssef Chermiti to Rangers in the summer transfer window.

Rangers paid around £8m for Chermiti, and it could rise to £10m, so Everton got a pretty good deal considering how his two years on Merseyside went.

Youssef Chermiti made just 24 appearances for the Toffees following his £15m transfer from Sporting and failed to score or assist.

Since joining the Gers, the Portuguese striker has made two cameo appearances, including one in a 2-0 win against Hibernian yesterday.

Here’s what Rangers fans had to say about his performance.

Rangers fans give verdict on former Everton striker Youssef Chermiti

Chermiti came on for the final 15 minutes of Rangers’ League Cup win at Ibrox on Saturday and it’s fair to say, fans weren’t convinced by his display.

They took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice their concerns about the former Everton frontman, who has arrived as the club’s third most expensive signing in history.

“Chermiti is an absolute waste of £8m btw,” @Whatsunnn_ said.

@bferguson4 added: “Seeing why Chermiti hasn’t been getting more minutes. Looks very rusty. Can only hope that’s the case anyway….”

@J1mb0wW commented: “Bar those 5 minutes before HT that was a bit of a chore! Through though… Oh and Chermiti? 10m?! yikes!”

@barrywelsh21 admitted: “Saw enough of Chermiti, donkey.”

Russell Martin convinced Youssef Chermiti is a great investment

Speaking earlier this month, via the Glasgow Times, Rangers head coach Russell Martin said Chermiti is a terrific investment.

“It’s a long-term investment for the football club, I think it’ll be a brilliant investment for the football club,” Martin explained.

“I think he’ll do extremely well for us. There won’t be any expectation on him in here. I’m sure externally maybe that changes.

“But in here, the expectation is that he works as hard as he possibly can. He wants to learn, he wants to grow and he wants to help the team. I think he’ll do really well for us.”

It’s certainly early days for Chermiti in a Rangers shirt, but clearly expectations are high, and it’s a difficult period for the club at the moment with protests against Martin.
