Joel Piroe is set to sign a new contract at Swansea City.

That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who have reported that the striker will turn down a move to the Premier League in favour of staying in Wales.

After scoring 41 goals over the last two Championship seasons, Piroe attracted plenty of interest from the likes of Everton, Leeds United, Leicester City and a number of Italian clubs this summer.

The ‘clinical’ Dutchman has entered the final 12 months of his contract with the Swans and was expected to end his two-year stint with the club and move to the top flight for around £15 million.

However, Michael Duff confirmed this week that they were yet to receive any bids for the 24-year-old and it now looks like he is ready to commit his future to Swansea.

Everton’s rumoured interest in Piroe has gone quiet in recent weeks and they may have slowed their pursuit of the forward as they turned their attentions to the likes of Che Adams and Youssef Chermiti, with the latter likely to move to Merseyside in the coming days.

Joel Piroe would prefer to stay with Swansea City than move to the Premier League

It comes as a surprise to see Joel Piroe turn down a move to the Premier League to stay in Wales, though perhaps it is just because he was yet to receive a concrete offer for his services.

The striker has also rejected the opportunity to let his current deal run down, though Swansea could still sell him on next summer and make a decent profit if he still has plenty of years remaining on his new contract.

Piroe is one of a number of strikers that Everton have failed to land this summer and they are going to have to pick up the pace in the final weeks of the window.
