Manchester United have opened talks with Andre Onana.

That’s according to the Evening Standard, which may prove to be a major boost for Everton in their bid to keep hold of Jordan Pickford.

The Mirror recently reported that the Red Devils were preparing a £45 million bid to sign the England international, with the Toffees braced to potentially lose their star man.

However, it now looks like Manchester United are prioritising a move for Onana after making contact with his representatives.

While the 27-year-old could set United back by £50m, Ten Hag favours a move for Onana as he spent time with him at Ajax before his arrival at Old Trafford.

With Tottenham Hotspur also turning their attention to Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario, Everton could now be in the clear and Pickford looks increasingly likely to remain at Goodison Park.

The 29-year-old has been one of the Toffees’ best players in recent years and has received heaps of praise, with former midfielder Leon Osman hailing him as ‘outstanding’ for his performance during their 0-0 draw against Liverpool in September.

Andre Onana to Manchester United could be the boost Everton need

There hasn’t been a lot to cheer about at Goodison Park recently, with fans continuing to protest against the owners and reports emerging that they could lose their biggest assets.

However, the supporters will be relieved by the news that Jordan Pickford could stay at the club and could give them a lot more hope for the upcoming campaign.

The goalkeeper arguably kept the Toffees in the Premier League last time out and he was undoubtedly be a key figure once again if they are to avoid a relegation scrap.

While Pickford would have earned Everton a decent sum of money, his departure definitely wouldn’t have been worth it.
