Youssef Chermiti returned to action on Friday afternoon as he took to the field for the Everton U21s alongside Armando Broja.

Everton have been without Youssef Chermiti since pre-season when he suffered a foot injury that later required surgery.

Sean Dyche was impressed with how Chermiti performed in pre-season, which made it even more gutting when he suffered his injury.

Chermiti returned to full training recently and it’s good to see he’s now stepped up to take part in a competitive game, though he is slightly behind Broja in terms of his recovery.

Interestingly, he featured for the Everton Under-21 side on Friday afternoon as they lost 4-2 to Nottingham Forest at Finch Farm.

Youssef Chermiti’s performance for the Everton Under-21s

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto will be looking over their shoulder with the returns of Broja and Chermiti.

Speaking at Finch Farm after watching the match between Everton Under-21s and Nottingham Forest Under-21s, Liverpool Echo reporter Joe Thomas shared how the striker played.

“Chermiti had some good hold-up play, taking the ball on his chest, holding off the centre-backs and feeding some of the players around him.”

Can Youssef Chermiti influence things?

Given the current striker situation at Everton, fans are desperate to see some new faces.

Everton haven’t scored in their last three games, which is a great concern, especially as they’ve had 61 shots during that period.

Everton fans slammed Dominic Calvert-Lewin‘s performance against Brentford after watching him walk around the pitch at times and offer nothing in the second half in particular.

The Portuguese striker has by no means shown he can score bags of goals at Everton since making the move, as he’s yet to even get off the mark after 20 games.

But, he does have plenty of potential and offer something different.
