Ruben Amorim looks set to become the new Manchester United boss, which has seen us dig up a quote from last year that suggested he’s not too keen on Everton.

Everton are more than happy with Sean Dyche at this moment in time, with things going surprisingly well amid the turmoil that some Premier League clubs are experiencing.

Manchester United are the first to pull the trigger this season, as Erik ten Hag was forced to pack his bags after being relieved of his duties at Old Trafford.

Of course, things haven’t been perfect at Everton as the first four games had Dyche looking like he could be the first to be sacked.

Maurizio Sarri was a name that the Friedkin Group had been rumoured to want as the new Everton boss, but nothing has materialised on that front.

Interestingly, Ruben Amorim looks set to be the new Manchester United boss, and he already threw a bit of shade at Everton without even meaning to last year.

Ruben Amorim suggests Everton weren’t good enough to sign Viktor Gyokeres, even when he was at Coventry

Ruben Amorim has grown in stature during his time as Sporting Lisbon boss, and he now looks set to get the big move he deserves at Manchester United.

Interestingly, one of the major successes from his time in Portugal has been Viktor Gyokeres. The Swede has gone from a decent player at Coventry to one of the best strikers in world football.

Everton fans may not remember, but the Toffees actually tabled an offer for Gyokeres during his time at Coventry, but missed out to Sporting.

This was something that Amorim brought up in an interview, but he suggested that the striker was never going to play for Everton.

“He really wanted to come to Sporting. We saw the offers, (sporting director Hugo) Viana showed me the proposals that the player had.

“He understood the project. He is a very ambitious player. And the clubs he had (trying to sign him) were probably not the ones he wants to go to in the Premier League.”

Everton a step up for Viktor Gyokeres

It was always unlikely that Viktor Gyokeres was going to go straight from Coventry to a huge Premier League club, as there’s always that uncertainty over making the jump to the Premier League.

The Michael Olise career path is something that springs to mind, with a Championship move to a lower Premier League side providing the platform to push off from.

So, to suggest that the striker would never want to join Everton is a bit strange.
