Everton have now been handed a potential late transfer blow after a manager’s comments on Wednesday night.
David Moyes saw his side make it two wins on the bounce at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium, beating Mansfield Town in the Carabao Cup.
One game stands between Everton and this summer’s transfer deadline day, which will see the market brought to a close on Monday.
The 62-year-old Everton manager will be keen to explore some late deals, but Moyes has been delighted with Everton’s transfer business so far.
Signing players like Jack Grealish and Tyler Dibling has exceeded the hopes of the Scot this summer.
However, some cold water may have now been poured on Everton’s hopes of securing a specific late deal.

Ruben Amorim hands Everton late Kobbie Mainoo blow
Everton are keen to add another midfielder before Monday’s deadline, having now addressed their top priorities.
According to Everton News’ transfer correspondent, Graeme Bailey, the Toffees are one of the sides that could offer Kobbie Mainoo a late exit from Manchester United.
Speaking ahead of Man United’s Carabao Cup disaster against Grimsby Town on Wednesday, Amorim admitted he still has Mainoo in his plans.
“I expect a lot from Kobbie Mainoo. Again, people think that sometimes you need to just give, but I think it’s important for Kobbie to fight for his place,” Amorim said ahead of their embarrassing loss.
“I believe a lot in Kobbie, more than everybody thinks. So, I expect a lot from him. I think he’s playing in one position, he is fighting with Bruno [Fernandes]. I think they can play together.”
Everton have attracted players with their new stadium marking the ambition, and Mainoo could well be another to make the move to Merseyside.
But there may be some concerns now that Amorim would be keen to keep the player at the club, despite his lack of minutes in the Premier League.
Mainoo needs to force a Man United exit
The game against Grimsby on Wednesday night marked a rare start for the midfielder under the current United boss.
Mainoo has not come off the bench in either of United’s opening Premier League games, which they are yet to secure a win in.
He did play the full 90 minutes against the League Two outfit, though.
- 90 minutes played
- 1 assist
- 81 touches
- 82% pass accuracy
- 2 key passes
- 1 tackle
- 1 penalty scored
Amorim has claimed Mainoo is battling with the club captain, Fernandes, for a spot in the starting XI.
Rio Ferdinand has said Mainoo is fighting the impossible battle, with Fernandes always set to win that selection choice.
Amorim may have sung his praises on Wednesday night, but the youngster must force a way out of Old Trafford to continue his development elsewhere.
