Sean Dyche already has the perfect Amadou Onana replacement on Everton’s books

Everton will no doubt face even greater scrutiny on their transfer dealings following the successful application from the Premier League in reprimanding the Merseyside club.

They saw their desired outcome play out, and now the Toffees have been deducted ten precious points to further dent their desire to secure top-flight safety.

With ‘fresh scrutiny’ to come regarding the latest accounts, such a notion is only emphasised as more and more eyes are set to be on them.

So, if they are to be forced into the sale of a star man, which some reports have suggested, they might need to promote from within to enjoy the profits of a sale without reinvesting.

Fortunately, at least with Amadou Onana, they have a similar profile just waiting to be unleashed in his role, potentially freeing up additional space for other stars to enter the engine room.

After all, James Garner boasts all the same technical prowess, although is admittedly lacking the same physical stature.

How good is James Garner?

What makes the Belgian maestro so special is his quality in possession blended with his 6 foot 4 physique. It is unique and hugely effective.

Although the Manchester United academy graduate still stands at 6 foot 1, he makes up for that slightly smaller status with relentless hard work that could actually see him thrive when placed into Onana’s deeper role.

FBref certainly thinks the £15m enforcer has enough to fulfil that position, given he is included on the former LOSC Lille star’s ‘similar players’ list.

It is easy to showcase the similarities, given how both have shone in the Premier League this season.

Onana, who boasts 11 appearances, has upheld an 85% pass accuracy alongside 2.5 tackles, 0.7 key passes and 6.5 ball recoveries per game, via Sofascore.

Meanwhile, his potential successor has instead managed an 80% pass accuracy and two goal contributions, tasked with offering more attacking threat and therefore more prone to losing the ball.

He too posts fine underlying figures too, boasting 1.1 key passes, 2.6 tackles and 4.6 ball recoveries per game, via Sofascore.

Given Statman Dave already suggested the ‘boy is special’ after his starring loan spell with Nottingham Forest, Garner’s ever-improving displays in Royal Blue are only adding to his value.

Sean Dyche can remain safe in the knowledge that, should Everton be forced to sell Onana, he at least has a readymade replacement in that role.
