Sean Dyche has been very impressed with Amadou Onana in recent weeks, though he has admitted that he is still learning about the ‘nuances’ of being at Everton.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Toffees boss claimed that Onana has ‘a lot to offer’ as he continues to develop.
The midfielder joined Everton from Lille in a £33 million deal last summer and he went onto become one of their better players last season, making 33 appearances in the Premier League.
However, Onana had received heavy criticism in recent months after he really struggled for form at the start of the season.
Despite that, the Belgian looks to have turned things around and has played a key part in the Toffees’ recent victories over Aston Villa, Brentford and Bournemouth.
Sean Dyche was full of praise for Onana, but knows there will still be inconsistencies as he is still young.
“Well he’s another young player,” Dyche said. “There will be ups and downs in the performances from younger players.

“He’s got a lot to offer and when it does come together I think he’s a very very good player.
“It’s just the nuts and bolts of his game, learning about the nuonces of being a Premier League footballer, not just the clean stuff that you can all see. Anticipating the game, reading the game, which the more you play, the more you learn. But we just want to fast track that, and so does he.
Amadou Onana still has plenty of growing to do
Amadou Onana’s talent was very clear as soon as he arrived at Everton, but he is still very raw.
The Belgium international was thrown in at the deep end at Goodison Park, simply because the Toffees didn’t have the squad depth to let him sit back and adapt.
There is no surprise that Onana hasn’t been at his best in every single game, but fans need to be patient with him and let him develop and grow – just like all of the younger players on Merseyside.
Onana seems to be coming into his own now though and could be a pivotal cog in the remainder of Everton’s campaign.
