Amadou Onana has proven to be one of Everton’s best buys in recent years, and has gone up another level this season.
The midfielder joined from Lille last season, and has been one of the club’s most impressive performers under Sean Dyche.
The 22-year-old has already caught the attention of other Premier League clubs with his displays, and it comes as no surprise given how well-rounded Onana is.
Stats have now emerged which highlight his incredible ability both going forward and defensively, which also prove that he has been Everton’s best player this season.

Stats highlighted by Breaking The Lines on Twitter have now shown that Onana ranks in first place amongst Everton players for defensive metrics in tackles, duels won, possession wins and fouls won, and remarkably is also top for progressive passes, shot-creating actions and big chances created.
He also ranks highly for aerial duels won and passes, with his physicality making him an ideal fit for Sean Dyche’s midfield, and alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure, Everton now have an engine room with a good blend of creativity and steel.
Onana’s importance to Everton
Given that Onana ranks above his teammates for both attacking and defensive output, he may be Everton’s most important player, and one which they cannot afford to lose.
There have been links with Manchester United, and the 22-year-old recently refused to rule out a January exit. Losing him midway through the season, even for a huge profit, would be a disaster for the club.
Everton certainly need to keep hold of the £100k-per-week player until the end of the season, as losing such a crucial presence in midfield could be the difference between survival and relegation.
Everton have had so many disasters in the transfer market in recent years, but Onana has quickly become one of their most successful deals in that time, and he is Everton’s biggest hope in the relegation battle.
