Sean Dyche has shared his verdict after Everton were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday after a penalties defeat to Fulham.

On a December night at Goodison Park, ultimately it was a disappointing one for The Toffees as Christmas wishes of a cup semi-final were dashed.

Michael Keane opened the scoring for Fulham as he put the ball past Jordan Pickford and into his own net.

The game saw both sides struggle to create much however Everton were the better of the two and managed to pull one back in the 82nd minute through Beto.

This saw the final whistle go with a scoreline of 1-1 and the two teams went into a penalty shootout, which Fulham eventually won after both Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye missed their spot-kicks.

This is something Sean Dyche will no doubt be extremely disappointed by given his pre game statement. Now post-game Dyche has shared his verdict on the loss.

Sean Dyche offers verdict on Carabao Cup loss

As reported by Liverpool World, Dyche was giving an honest verdict as his side were knocked out of the cup at a quarter final stage.

“It is one of them things, penalties have to be decided some way. I thought the performance was another strong one but we didn’t find the true moments of quality in the very end of lots of good moves and getting into good positions.

“If you are brave enough to get up there and take one, you are brave enough to take the consequences. We practise them, they practise them, [coach] Steve Stone did a good job getting it all organised so you do everything you can.

“It is a cup competition. We took the game on, tried everything to take the game. Similar to how we played them in the league, dominated and couldn’t find the killer moments. The stadium was great, the fans and everyone took the knocks and got on with it.

“Everyone has got a style of a penalty they think can score. His record has been very strong in all of the rounds we’ve practised them. That’s his style.”

Disappointing loss for Everton but no time to dwell

As disappointing this will be for Everton, they can’t afford to let it be a huge issue with two massive games in the next week or so.

Everton first face Spurs at the weekend before taking on the treble winners Man City after Christmas.

These are two games which Everton could make massive statements in given both have been out of form lately.

Solid results in both could see Dyche end the year with a real chance of a top half finish this season.
