Sean Dyche has made a bold Everton comparison with Sir Alex Ferguson as he gears up for a Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Everton look like they’re back, after a couple of years of turmoil and close brushes with relegation. Sean Dyche has turned the fortune of the football club around and has found a really rich vein of form.

Four wins on the bounce, with four clean sheets most recently a 2-0 win over Burnley. This incredible form has left Everton flying in 16th, but really, they’re a top 10 team if it wasn’t for that points deduction.

However, it’s not just the league where Everton are looking solid, as a Carabao Cup quarter-final beckons at Goodison Park on Tuesday night which could see The Toffees in the final four.

Facing Fulham, Dyche will fancy his side’s chances of progressing into the semi-finals where they’ll have every chance of potentially reaching a cup final.

Ahead of the game, Dyche has made a bold statement in which he pinpointed a legendary Premier League manager’s success as his aim at Everton.

Sean Dyche makes Everton vow in comparison to Sir Alex Ferguson

Speaking in advance of his side’s quarter-final, Dyche had been speaking to the media, and as per Mail Online, he made quite the statement.

“My cup record isn’t amazing but the mentality we want to build here is for winning to be a constant, Sir Alex Ferguson had it for years at Man United.”

Dyche clearly envisions possible success in this competition, and he continued his vow as he set the goal of victory for the game on Tuesday.

“We are nowhere near that but regardless of what the game is, we can put out a side pulling in the right direction and to win it. We want Goodison to be rocking and we want to keep our momentum.

“Trust me, you don’t try to lose a cup. At the end of the day, I’ve said it for years as well, the Premier League thing with the kudos, the money, the feel, everybody wants the Premier League. Sometimes you have to weigh up what are the realities. I want a pride in these competitions.”

From the sounds of things, Dyche is conflicted over whether or not he should focus on the league or cup success. But right now, there’s no reason Everton can’t do both.

In recent weeks beating Chelsea and Newcastle has rightfully left Everton with a heap of confidence which they’ll take into their fixture against Fulham.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Dyche have long been close

The relationship between Dyche and the legendary Manchester United manager goes back to 2014 when it emerged that Ferguson had been giving Dyche advice.

Ferguson with his wealth of experience was said to be helping Dyche integrate himself into Premier League football.

Due to this it’s no surprise that Dyche views Ferguson as the benchmark and aims to replicate the tremendous winning mentality the iconic Scot had at United.
