Sean Dyche may now have answer to nightmare Everton problem as update emerges

This season has been a slow-burner for Everton, but one that at last seems set to settle at a solid enough level to ensure their easy survival.

Already boasting a five-point gap from the relegation zone, and having claimed important recent victories over the likes of West Ham United, Brentford and even Burnley in the EFL Cup, things are certainly looking up as the Toffees seek to enter the busy Christmastime schedule in a strong position.

Whilst that relates to the form they hope to carry, their strength in depth marks another key factor that will be hugely important as the games come thick and fast.

Sweating on the fitness of Amadou Onana marks the outstanding worry at the moment for Sean Dyche, who actually saw his club captain make a huge stride towards a return last night for the U21s.

Seamus Coleman has been absent for Everton ever since being stretchered off against Leicester City back in May, and yet has just managed an impressive 66 minutes as Paul Tait’s team struck late to defeat Mansfield Town.

The return of the £55k-per-week full-back comes at the perfect time too, given the nightmare Dyche is enduring in that role.

With Ashley Young and Nathan Patterson both alternating at right-back, with neither impressing enough to stamp their starting claim, Coleman’s reemergence will surely end that headache for the 52-year-old boss.

How good is Seamus Coleman?

The Ireland international’s contribution to the football club cannot be understated, having spent 14 fine years at Goodison Park and racking up 409 senior appearances.

He has been consistently dynamic, defensively sound and a keen offensive threat, with his leadership and elite mentality earning widespread praise as his career has gone on.

Journalist Nancy Gillen would even brand the defender a ‘legend’ as recently as 2021, despite the 35-year-old attesting that only someone to win a trophy can earn such an accolade.

Even his age has not seen his performances dwindle, as the ageing cult hero has adapted his game expertly to remain solid when facing up against some of the game’s finest wide men.

Across 23 Premier League games last term, Coleman would score a crucial goal in a 1-0 win over relegation rivals Leeds United, as well as posting one interception, 1.5 tackles and two clearances per game, via Sofascore.

With Young and Patterson both enduring their respective weaknesses, the 68-cap ace marks the safest option set to solve Dyche’s headache upon his first-team return.
