Everton have acted with speed throughout this summer thus far, identifying targets and bringing them in with minimal fuss.
However, despite the ease with which Jack Harrison, Tim Iroegbunam and Iliman Ndiaye were brought to Goodison Park, things were unlikely to remain that straightforward.
So, it should come as no surprise that the Toffees now once again find themselves embroiled in a protracted transfer saga.
Last summer it was Wilfried Gnonto, and many years ago it was Wilfried Zaha too.

There are countless examples over the years, and it almost always ends in tears.
So, should we expect any different from Jaden Philogene?
Everton suffer setback in Jaden Philogene setback
Given Kevin Thelwell was once in the driving seat, as Everton seemed set to sign Philogene, recent developments today have turned that theory on its head.
It seems like nobody really knows what’s going on, and that at present every club and journalist is being played by the agent of the player.
He has already showcased his stranger side, having shown up at Barcelona to try and force through a move, and now seems to be conducting the media from the shadows.
However, one respected journalist sought to provide his verdict, as Alan Myers offered an Everton Philogene update which does not sound good at all.
He simply wrote: ‘Now being told Philogene favours a move to Ipswich Town, go figure!’
Sean Dyche should move on to other targets
Despite his obvious quality, it’s not like Sean Dyche has all his eggs in one basket with Philogene.
In fact, Everton’s interest in Yaser Asprilla should be of interest to Evertonians who might be worried, given the Colombia international boasts a similar profile to the alternative and has international experience, currently with Colombia on international duty at the Copa America.
The Hull City superstar was imperious last campaign, and to lose out on him would definitely be a blow.
But it is not the end of the world, and there is still so much of the summer left to go for Thelwell to find an alternative.

Asprilla is one such example, but here are also likely numerous other untapped markets which they have not even begun to explore yet.
Philogene could go and thrive wherever he chooses, but if he does not want to play for Everton, then so be it.
It’s his loss.
