Everton are working hard to ensure that, by the time the new Premier League season rolls around, their squad is suitably strengthened to tackle whatever comes their way.

Having worked wonders with a team lacking quality and depth, with Sean Dyche to thank for their miraculous performances, were they to give him more to work with who knows how far they might go under his sturdy leadership.

Kevin Thelwell is the man seeking to provide him with all those necessary tools, and reports are now suggesting that a fresh bid has been submitted to hopefully strengthen a problem area for the Toffees.

Everton submit bid for Jackson Tchatchoua

The latest, as has often been the case this summer, is being detailed by the Italian media, more specifically TuttoMercatoWeb.

They seek to provide an update on Everton’s pursuit of Jackson Tchatchoua, the Hellas Verona right-back, who actually only made the permanent move to Italy this very summer.

Now seeking to ship him on for further profit, it is the Toffees leading the race for his signature, having even submitted a €10m (£8.4m) bid as per that aforementioned report.

Given that the player is reportedly ‘serious’ about making the move to Merseyside, this seems like one that should occur as a matter of when rather than if.

However, the bid was instantly rejected, and a counter proposal worth a mere €2m extra was proposed.

Kevin Thelwell needs to get this position right

Whilst many have attested for some time that Everton’s squad is far too good to be constantly battling relegation, there have still been key deficiencies which have left them lacking.

After all, despite ample firepower up top, an inability to finish has plagued everyone from Neal Maupay to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Meanwhile, their struggles at centre-back were only recently sorted by Jarrad Branthwaite’s emergence, whilst they remain light in the wide areas to this day.

Thelwell is already working to sort out the latter, with Everton’s interest in Wilfried Gnonto well-documented, and right-back arguably remains the final problem position to be sorted.

That is, despite having Ashley Young, Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson all ready and prepped to play that role.

If he is to add to this full-back fiasco, Thelwell needs to get it right, and whilst Tchatchoua has a solid pedigree as a defender willing to bomb forward, it remains to be seen how he can translate his talents into the Premier League.
