Sean Dyche shares what some fans ‘forget’ as Everton eye up deadline day moves

Everton will go into this year’s summer Deadline Day full of hope, praying that the squad that starts the day can finish it filled with far more depth and quality.

The success of that remains wildly unpredictable, with Sean Dyche having already suffered through some horrendous experiences on this particular day.

However, he will remain optimistic about at least a few new additions, and he has now spoken to reporters about the nature of transfers and how he approaches them.

Sean Dyche previews Everton’s deadline day

Speaking to the press ahead of Everton’s clash with AFC Bournemouth this Saturday, naturally, with Deadline Day looming, Dyche’s transfer plans dominated interest.

A brief fitness update was enough to satisfy reporters, who then turned their attention to the Toffees’ transfer fortunes, and who might be welcomed into Goodison Park before the summer window slams shut.

However, the 53-year-old sought to remind some fans that things are not always as easy as they might seem, as he would claim: ‘Yeah I mean, we’re trying to be active.

‘People sometimes forget that, we’ve been as active as we could be with the signings, trying to bring in players who can operate immediately and also grow into the club and the league.

’So we want to do that and obviously the players who have been here before, I’m super proud of everyone here and what they’ve given to the cause and that remains. The added players coming in we want them to get that feel for the club, that attachment to the club and the same work ethic to go and deliver.’

What players could Everton sign on deadline day?

Ahead of Deadline Day, there is a whole host of targets who Kevin Thelwell could potentially sign before the window closes.

Firstly, a deal for a new midfielder is expected to be tied up, with Orel Mangala having completed his Everton medical this week.

He is due to join on a loan, whilst the Toffees will return to Lyon to try and pry winger Ernest Nuamah from the French club too.

Elsewhere, there is fresh interest in Burnley’s Josh Brownhill, whilst French right-back Lorenz Assignon has now piqued Dyche’s interest too as he seeks to plug his defensive vacancy.

With so many moving parts, it remains impossible to predict how the window might conclude. Everton could finish the summer with a whole cast of new faces, or just the four signings already made earlier in the window.
