Sean Dyche should play his wildcard and unleash his £15m Everton player vs West Ham

Everton play host to West Ham United this weekend and one player has staked a claim to start the Goodison Park clash.

The Toffees have recently been handed back four points, following the initial 10-point reduction, and now sit 15th in the Premier League table, five points above the drop zone.

Sean Dyche must not let his players become complacent, however, with the club still in danger of seeing more points docked due to a charge from the 2022/23 season.

Whilst their position in the top-flight now looks a lot more comfortable, the results of late have been poor and they remain winless in their last nine league matches.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto both misfiring, Dyche should consider unleashing Youssef Chermiti.

The goals haven’t exactly flown in for Everton this season. The Toffees are the third-lowest scorers (28) in the division, with only relegation-threatened Sheffield United and Burnley netting fewer.

Calvert-Lewin hasn’t scored since October whilst the £25m summer signing Beto is yet to find the net in 2024.

So, having scored twice for the under-21s during a 3-1 win against Fulham on Monday, Chermiti deserves a run in the side over the aforementioned pair.

The 19-year-old, who joined the Merseysiders in a £15m switch from Sporting last summer, has been capped at youth level for Portugal and is clearly well-thought-of at the club.

Having featured as a centre forward off the bench for Dyche’s side this term, perhaps he could line up just in behind Calvert-Lewin or Beto if The Toffees boss wants a more experienced focal point.

Sean Dyche must solution to goalscoring woes

Dyche must find a way to get back to winning ways. Everton’s last league victory came back in December when they defeated relegation rivals Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor.

Though, equally, the Merseyside club have only lost one of their last six games and in that time, they’ve been pretty watertight at the back.

Only Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has kept more clean sheets than Jordan Pickford, so it’s clear to see where the issue lies.

Something needs to change in the forward line, whether that’s the inclusion of the Chermiti or perhaps young Lewis Dobbin. The 2003-born wide player has made nine league appearances this term and was on the scoresheet in Everton’s 2-0 win against Chelsea.

Maybe even a change of shape is required to solve Everton’s goalscoring woes, but not would appear to be the time for Dyche to potentially use his wildcard in an attempt to shake things up.
