Everton’s hunt for a new striker has developed.
The Toffees have approached Sunderland to enquire about Wilson Isidor as David Moyes looks to find competition for Thierno Barry and Beto – the Frenchman is valued at £25m.
However, before that news emerged, a story from The Times claimed that Everton were chasing Tammy Abraham – but the England international preferred a move to Aston Villa.
Now though, Everton could be back in the mix to sign the 28-year-old, either this winter or in the summer.
Would you back a move for Wilson Isidor ? 🎯
Aston Villa now want Jean-Philippe Mateta as Tammy Abraham problems arise
The Athletic now state that Aston Villa have turned their attention towards Crystal Palace, and want to do a deal for Jean-Philippe Mateta.
It comes after the Villans struggled to hold productive talks with Besiktas over a deal for Abraham – who Jack Grealish adores – despite his desire to return to Villa Park this month.
Besiktas have just triggered an £11m option to sign Abraham permanently from Roma after an initial loan in the first half of the season, so the Turkish giants are presumably unwilling to sell him immediately.
That would, of course, also be a problem for Everton in terms of signing the Londoner this month.
However, if Aston Villa buy Mateta, it would be a long-term move, meaning Unai Emery would be unlikely to return to the table for Abraham this summer.
Therefore, Everton could well have a shot at landing the Chelsea academy graduate if the Villans manage to do business with Crystal Palace, either this month or in the summer transfer window when Besiktas would be more open to selling.
Everton should consider moving for Jean-Philippe Mateta themselves
The Athletic say Crystal Palace would sell Mateta for £34.7m this month after contract talks with the Frenchman collapsed.
That is a reasonable fee for a France international who can boast 38 goals in his last 94 Premier League appearances.
Everton are reportedly one of six PL clubs interested in Tammy Abraham 👀
What do you make of this link, Everton fans? Would he be an upgrade on Barry or Beto? 🤔
So, if Aston Villa are unable to agree a deal for Mateta, it might be worth Everton taking a look at the Crystal Palace No.14 themselves instead of Abraham.
