Lewis Dobbin has admitted it is a ‘special day’ after making his first Premier League start for Everton.

The forward took to his Instagram account to share his delight at featuring in the Toffees’ starting line-up as they were beaten by Wolves at Goodison Park.

Dobbin joined Everton’s academy in 2014 and went onto make his senior debut in a 20 win over Norwich City two years ago.

The 20-year-old has only made a handful of appearances for the first team, but an impressive loan spell with Derby County last season saw him force his way into the picture during pre-season.

Dobbin was one of the stars of the summer for Everton as they claimed four wins from five matches and had earned himself cameo appearances in both of their opening two games in the Premier League.

The Merseyside club’s horrific showing against Aston Villa resulted in a shake-up to the starting line-up this time round, with Dobbin handed his first start behind Arnaut Danjuma after catching Sean Dyche’s eye at Villa Park.

Dobbin was unable to get his first competitive goal for the club before he was replaced by Youssef Chermiti on the hour mark, with his first start overshadowed by another disappointing defeat on home soil.

Writing on his Instagram, the attacker said: “Obviously not the result we were looking for, but a special day making my first Premier League start.”

Everton can’t be relying on youngsters like Lewis Dobbin already

Dobbin was joined by Tom Cannon in the match-day squad, with the striker making only his third appearance in the top flight and his first of the current campaign.

Cannon was due to join Preston North End on loan this month and has been heavily linked to a £1 million loan move to a number of Championship clubs, however the 20-year-old is yet to get his wish due to Dyche’s lack of attacking options.

With Beto set to sign a permanent deal at the club in the coming days, Cannon could well be sent out on a season-long loan before next week’s transfer deadline.
