Stan Collymore shares how he thinks clubs will react to Everton’s points deduction

Premier League clubs could sympathise with Everton after their brutal 10-point deduction.

That’s according to Stan Collymore, who implied his intrigue into whether ‘other clubs’ would receive a similar punishment to the Toffees.

Everton were docked ten points today after they were found guilty of breaching financial fair play rules.

Premier League clubs are permitted to lose £105m over a three-year period, while a five-day hearing last month found that Everton’s losses in that period added up to £124.5m.

While Everton will have expected a point deduction, the amount of points taken from them came as a shock to many, with the club confirming they would appeal the decision.

Taking to X, Collymore wrote: “The Premier League have taken on one of the Founding Fathers of English football, Everton. Everton will have a lot of sympathy in the Premier League “dressing room” should other clubs not be treated as Everton have today. Popcorn time.”

What does this mean for Man City?

Everton aren’t the only club that could be punished for breaching financial fair play rules, with Manchester City charged with 115 breaches in February regarding sponsors and contracts across nine years.

With that in mind, many football fans have called for the defending champions to receive a much bigger punishment than Everton. However, there is no indication that City’s case will be resolved anytime soon due to how big it is.

Similarly, reports this week have claimed that Chelsea are also under investigation for breaching FFP rules after it was alleged that secret payments had been made by companies belonging to former owner Roman Abrahamovich.

If City are eventually punished, then the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be eager to see them plummet down the table if Everton’s deduction is anything to go by.

But it would be no surprise at all to see Man City and Chelsea receive a very unfair punishment, in comparison to Everton’s. The Toffees have been made an example of, but we would be stupid to think anything bad could ever happen to one of the big clubs.
