Frank Lampard was appointed Everton manager in January 2022.

Farhad Moshiri had just sacked Rafael Benitez, who left Everton in 15th place, six points above the relegation zone.

Wayne Rooney rejected the Toffees job, so in came Lampard after a pretty decent spell as Chelsea manager.

Frank Lampard decided to keep Duncan Ferguson as part of his backroom staff after hearing positive things about his coaching qualities.

Ferguson would often take training, with Lampard overseeing proceedings, and now, the Scotsman has just shared a little-known story about one bust-up that occurred.

Frank Lampard had to be separated from Salomon Rondon during Everton training

In his audiobook, Ferguson revealed that he had to separate Lampard and Salomon Rondon during an Everton training session.

“Frank’s got choirboy looks but I saw another side of him that made me realise why he’s been such a top player,” the Scotsman explained.

“Salomon Rondon and Frank had a right set to in training one day. Salomon wanted to leave and he felt Frank was blocking him.

“They were shouting at each other and the argument continued into the changing rooms.

“I followed as I could see what was happening. Frank had changed, he’d rolled back the years to him being a player.

“It was getting a bit naughty. I could see Frank becoming aggressive with Salomon, who was a big lump.

“So I stepped in between them and I managed to get Frank away from Salomon and I thought that’s why guys like Frank were such great players.

“You’d think butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth… Frank’s tough and he has that edge. He’s a warrior, a fighter and he’s a very good manager.”

Rondon ended up leaving later that year

Rondon didn’t end up getting his move that January and only made substitute appearances under Lampard thereafter.

The towering centre-forward finally got his move a year later than he planned, as he joined Argentinian giants River Plate.

Rondon, now 35, plies his trade in Mexico’s top-flight with Pachuca, where he’s enjoying a sensational season.

The Venezuela international has netted 15 goals in 27 starts, laying on five assists in the process.
