The £17m right-back alternative for Everton amid fears Spence and Doue could be too costly

Everton are still in the hunt for a new right-back this summer – and one former target has a very reasonable £17 million asking price.

Seamus Coleman has left the club, and it is also expected that Nathan Patterson will be sold this summer.

Jake O’Brien has filled in at right-back plenty of times under David Moyes. But the idea is to move him into the middle to potentially play with Jarrad Branthwaite.

How excited are you by Everton’s signing of Tyrique George on a permanent deal? Can he really kick on now after his loan?

The deal is now official, with the Toffees paying an initial £18m, with £6m to come in potential add-ons… ✅

Right-back has been a problem position for a while now, and it’s paramount Everton get someone in.

The problem is, though, that many of the players on their shortlist are expensive.

But today, Everton could sign an alternative for £17 million.

Ben Jacobs has reported that Brooke Norton-Cuffy of Genoa is valued at £17 million this summer.

Everton were quite heavily linked with Norton-Cuffy last January, but ultimately didn’t move for him.

It seems he is being lined up for a sale this summer, with Jacobs saying on X: “Understand Genoa’s Brooke Norton-Cuffy is valued at €20m this summer. Interest from Serie A, while Everton explored a deal in January.”

And this has got to put Everton on red alert.

Djed Spence has had a good World Cup with England, and is now likely to cost a lot of money. Tottenham are spending big, so they will also want to sell big if they can.

After watching him for England vs Croatia, I’m convinced he’d be the perfect right-back signing this summer! 🔥

Ben White – another player on Everton’s radar – also won’t go cheap from Arsenal.

Then there’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka. He played really well for DR Congo at the World Cup, and as a result, West Ham increased their asking price to £25 million.

And finally, it seems Guela Doue is the most expensive target of all. Last month, talkSPORT reported his asking price to be as high as £40 million.

Everton fans don’t want to see the club holding back in terms of spending on a right-back this summer.

But at the same time, the club have already spent a lot of money to sign Hayden Hackney and turn the loan moves of Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl permanent.

At £17 million, Norton-Cuffy is an opportunity to save a bit of money, but still sign a really solid and promising player.

He made 27 appearances in Serie A, 25 of which were starts. He played over 2000 minutes, and chipped in a couple of goals and assists.

He did have a hamstring injury towards the end of the season, which ruled him out for around five weeks. But it was a successful season for the 22-year-old, who has previous experience of playing in the English Football League.

With other options looking pricey, this is an opportunity Everton have to be exploring.
