The Everton player who went ‘eyeball to eyeball’ with Kieran Trippier down the tunnel during Newcastle game last season

Everton are now left with just one final week to tie up any final pieces of business in this summer’s market.

The Toffees have been able to bring in four new players this summer with Sean Dyche‘s side bolstered following a turbulent campaign.

However, Everton‘s 2024/25 season could not have gotten off to a worse start following their emphatic defeat at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The game against the Seagulls may have provided Dyche with a valuable lesson having chosen not to start Jake O’Brien, but it could also have sent the Toffees back into the market.

A new right-back is potentially now a priority for the Blues over the final week with what has unfolded over recent weeks in that position.

Everton eyeing move for Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier

Ashley Young was sent off on Saturday and Dyche is already without Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson through injury.

It is now being reported that Everton are looking to strike a deal for Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier before the deadline.

However, an arrival at Goodison Park for the England international could come following a heated interaction with one of his possible new teammates.

According to Amazon Prime commentator Jim Rosenthal, Trippier was involved in an ‘eyeball to eyeball’ argument with Jordan Pickford.

“Tempers flaring and another yellow card given for Gordon. And it didn’t end there either,” he said back in October 2022 during their meeting in the Premier League.

“I’ve got to tell you that Kieran Trippier and Jordan Pickford are great mates. They stay in touch with each other all the time. You wouldn’t think it would you?

“Animated, eyeball to eyeball, going down the tunnel at half time.”

Jordan Pickford and Kieran Trippier have since patched things up

The pair know each other very well now as the pair are two of England’s senior players having been to numerous tournaments together representing the Three Lions.

Whether Trippier has any more tournaments left in him is another question but he and Pickford have certainly gotten to know eachother.

And at this summer’s Euros, Trippier shares the close bond which he and Pickford have formed over the years.

“Me and Picks [Jordan Pickford] are really close,” he told The Chronicle.

“I was nervous as it was before being captain for the first time so as I’m doing my speech, I clock eyes with him. He starts bursting out laughing. I lost where I was going. Everyone just started laughing their heads off.”
