The Friedkin Group could now make a signing Joleon Lescott thinks Everton fans will ‘love’

Joleon Lescott knows what an effective Everton side looks like.

The 43-year-old played for the Toffees from 2006 to 2009, racking up 143 appearances while helping Everton reach the FA Cup final and playing alongside some top performers, such as Leighton Baines, Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini.

Therefore, it should speak volumes that Lescott has already endorsed Callum Wilson as a signing Everton should make.

Speaking back in June, the Englishman was asked to name a striker he felt would be perfect for the Toffees.

Would YOU take Callum Wilson at Everton? 🤔

He can boast 92 goals in 256 Premier League appearances… ⚽️

The Liverpool Echo quote Lescott as saying in response: “I’ll tell you who wouldn’t be a bad one – Callum Wilson. He wouldn’t be a bad signing because he focuses on goals, has a high work rate and that is what Everton fans love. As much as you’re scoring goals, what are you giving?

“He plays with his heart on his sleeve. Knowing him as a person, the temperament of the club and the expectation – he’s coming from Newcastle where the expectation is very high, so he wouldn’t be fazed by the expectation of Everton either.”

Now – according to The Athletic – Everton are interested in signing Wilson as he engages in talks to leave West Ham, following the arrivals of Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe.

TEAMtalk even claim Everton have already held talks about signing the England international, who turns 34 in February.

Some Everton fans may never forgive Lescott for the manner in which he left for Manchester City in 2009, but having played with some of the very best on his way to earning 26 England caps, it speaks volumes that he feels Wilson would be a strong addition.

Callum Wilson could leave a lasting impression at Everton by helping Thierno Barry

In any case, we would only expect Everton to sign Wilson – who Jack Grealish likes – on a deal until the end of the season, given his worrying injury record.

However, with 92 goals in 256 Premier League appearances, the man born in Coventry could leave a lasting impression by giving Thierno Barry some tips.

Who are you picking to start against Villa if you were David Moyes? 🤨

💡Or would you start both up front?

The Frenchman has struggled significantly since his £27m move from Villarreal back in July, netting just three goals in 21 Premier League outings so far.

Having said that, Barry is still only 23 – a decade younger than Wilson – so he may benefit from working alongside the England international at Finch Farm for six months.

If that ends up happening and it helps the £27m man fulfil his potential, then there would be even more reason for Everton to offer Wilson a short-term contract.
