Everton have already brought in Hayden Hackney this summer – but there’s scope for at least one more, and Norway may well have just the right player.
Last night, Norway crashed out of the competition, losing to England 2-1 in Miami.
Are you worried about what you’re seeing from Pickford? 🤔
Jude Bellingham scored twice for Thomas Tuchel’s side, who will now face Argentina in the last four.
Jordan Pickford came in for a bit more criticism for his performance, but England are now just two games away from finally bringing football home.
It wasn’t pretty against Norway, but amid the tension, one wonders if anyone back at Everton had any focus on the Norwegian team – and in particular, Patrick Berg.
Premier League clubs want Patrick Berg, and Everton should be in the hunt

Everton could need another midfielder after Hackney, because there is currently uncertainty over the likes of Tim Iroegbunam and Charly Alcaraz.
It also looks as though Idrissa Gana Gueye will be leaving.
Everton have apparently shown interest in Sander Berge recently, but his fellow midfielder Patrick Berg is surely someone who is also worth the Toffees’ attention.
TEAMtalk have reported that his performances at the World Cup have led to interest from newly promoted clubs Coventry City, Hull City and Ipswich Town.
West Ham United and Burnley, who both suffered relegation at the end of 2025/26, are also mentioned as being keen.
But Everton should put themselves into the mix too, because Berg really was great at the tournament.
He didn’t actually start the first two games, but Berg wowed with his work rate and ball retention against the likes of France, Ivory Coast and Brazil.
On Fotmob, only four of his teammates finished with a higher average match rating: Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard, Sander Berge and Kristoffer Ajer.
He actually ranks top in the Norway squad for big chances created though with three, and he picked up a couple of assists, both for Haaland.
Berg also showed defensive quality, making two blocks, six clearances, 12 recoveries, 10 tackles and one interception.
Sources have apparently told TEAMtalk that Berg believes ‘the physical nature and intensity of English football would suit his game perfectly’.
He is prepared to explore opportunities to leave his club Bodo Glimt and it may be worth it for Everton to see how much money they would demand.
As a 28-year-old with international pedigree and someone known for leadership, there is a lot to like about Berg, and he could make for a nice experienced head in midfield that Everton will no longer have if Gueye does depart.

Indeed, Berg was one of Norway’s captains and wore the armband against France.
His former teammate Ricardo Friedrich is quoted by FIFA as saying: “He has a conscious style of leadership. He’s not someone who talks all the time or tries to impose himself by raising his voice – he speaks calmly and openly. When he does speak, everyone stops to listen, because he speaks with authority.
“Patrick is a very focused, committed and intelligent player. He sees football differently. You can tell he understands and reads the game like few others.”
