Everton lost 3-1 to Sunderland in their final home game of the Premier League season – and what David Moyes said about Jake O’Brien is bound to frustrate fans everywhere.
The Toffees once again found themselves in a winning position, but failed to convert that into three points.
After Merlin Rohl gave Everton the lead in the first-half, Sunderland hit back with goals in the second from Brian Brobbey, Enzo Le Fee and Wilson Isidor.
How do you even sum that up? 😡
Everton end their home campaign on a whimper 😫
Regis Le Bris’ side stepped up, whereas Everton failed to push on after taking the lead.
It’s a pattern that is becoming frustratingly familiar, and one that has cost Everton European football.
Mathematically it’s still possible, but realistically it won’t happen now.
And after the game, Moyes spoke about Jake O’Brien who made a mistake for Sunderland’s first goal in the game.
David Moyes admits keeping Jake O’Brien on the pitch vs Sunderland despite injury

Everton allowed Sunderland back into the game on Sunday, with a really loose touch by O’Brien leading to a turnover.
Brobbey was then played through, and he shrugged off James Tarkowski to finish.
The mistake came from O’Brien, who had a pretty rough afternoon.
He looked in discomfort in the first-half, and Moyes confirmed after the game that he was aware of this, explaining why he kept the defender on.
What would you say to Angus Kinnear after THAT loss to Sunderland? 😤
Something has to change… 😭
He said in his press conference: “He got it in the first-half from a challenge that he had. He went down just before half-time so.
“(When Nathan Patterson warmed up at a point in the second-half) We thought he (O’Brien) was injured when he went off the pitch at the bottom. Then we got told he was able to get through it.
“At that period they were having a series of three or four corner kicks at the moment, (for) which I needed big Jake’s height.”
Moyes’ O’Brien admission likely won’t go down well with the masses.
It was one of the Irishman’s worst games for a while, and that he was injured and not taken off will have many fans asking questions.
Perhaps there was a lack of focus in that moment when he gave that ball away.

Had he been taken off, that equaliser may never have happened.
Moyes is once again under-fire for being too slow to make changes in games, which has been a running theme for a lot of the season.
The Scot has done brilliant work stabilising Everton. But his stubbornness is certainly something that could prevent Everton reaching the next level.
