Carlo Ancelotti used his pull to sign some really talented players during his 18-month spell at Everton.

James Rodriguez was the most notable signing as he completed a shock move from La Liga giants Real Madrid in 2020.

Rodriguez started off his career at Everton really brightly but it turned a little sour towards the end as he was exiled from the squad by Rafael Benitez.

Carlo Ancelotti also tried to use his pulling power to sign Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and he even offered a sweetener in the proposed deal.

Carlo Ancelotti offered Sergio Aguero substantial signing on bonus

According to the Daily Star, Everton tried to sign Man City striker Sergio Aguero during the summer of 2021.

The Toffees told Aguero’s advisors that they were prepared to offer him a substantial signing-on bonus due to the fact they couldn’t match his £240,000-a-week wages.

Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United and Barcelona were also trying to sign the free agent, who had just departed the Etihad after 10 glittering years.

Ultimately, Aguero opted to join Barcelona, where he made five appearances before hanging up his boots due to a health condition.

Ancelotti ended up leaving weeks after Aguero deal collapsed

Ancelotti left for Real Madrid just weeks after the deal for Aguero collapsed.

Clearly, it became apparent to the Italian head coach that Everton wouldn’t be able to back him in the window, so he jumped at the opportunity to leave.

Rafael Benitez replaced Ancelotti that summer and was given just £1.7m to spend, with the majority of the business just free transfers.

Demarai Gray was the only addition that cost a transfer fee and it plummeted the club into a relegation battle.

Ancelotti has gone on to win two Champions League’s at Real and now wants to sign Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.

Ancelotti will have to pay £62m for Branthwaite.
